The 2nd annual Rotary Food Drive is ready to go! We are calling it "Cans for a Cause." All 4 Rotary clubs in Norman are joining forces to benefit The Salvation Army, Pantry Partners, Food & Shelter, and Aging Services. Donate your time, donate your food, donate your $$, and tell your friends! Our goal is 5770 items (for District 5770). We can do it!

2021-2022 CLUB PRESIDENT

Welcome to Norman Cross Timbers Rotary – a group of individuals who value service and fellowship. We are committed to making a difference in our community and beyond, undertaking projects that can transform lives. We are also focused on being what Rotary calls a Peacebuilder Club. Through our work and attention, and our connection with like-minded Rotarians in Norman and across the world, we see opportunities to promote peace and better understanding among members of our communities and reduce conflict. Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta has proclaimed “Serve to Change Lives” as the theme for his year as president. Norman Cross Timbers Rotarians embrace that theme, and recognize that providing service to our community and world can change the lives of those being served, and can change our lives as well!

Members of the Norman Cross Timbers Rotary Club participated in the Day of Service organized by the City of Norman, to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on January 17, 2022. Rotarians cleaned up June Benson Park by picking up trash, limbs, and raking leaves. Members were joined by District Governor Elect (and Past President of Cross Timbers) Conni Eckstein.

Given the increases in things that are concerning (infections, hospitalizations, etc), and based on a recommendation from George Mauldin (Cleveland County Emergency Services Director...who presented a program about Covid to our club a few weeks back), we are cancelling our meeting on January 18. George was to be our program guest, but we will reschedule him for a future meeting.
Toward the end of the month, we will reassess the situation and decide about the February 1st meeting.
With the Day of Service activity on Monday being outdoors, there is less concern, so we will still be doing our part on that day. Let me know if you can help us then!
In the meantime, stay safe!
Phil

This year, the Norman PD organized an event at the Sooner Mall Parking Lot (NE corner) for National Night Out.
Our club had a space, and a canopy set up, with a table, a club banner, some printed materials, candy to give out, and stories to tell about how our club does good in the world!

Our program last night was brought to us by our very own Marilyn Kaplan.
Marilyn gave us a brief history of Polio and how it has infected millions of people.
She brought us to today when there has been reported a total number of 2 new cases THIS YEAR!
One in Pakistan and one in Afghanistan.
The slide show was very good showing us how the number of cases have decreased since Rotary and The Bill Gates Foundation got involved.
